Universal is an immersive virtual world built using real time data and high resolution imagery of the planet Earth, with in-world geometry being close to a true scale.

While at geostationary orbit, the whole world is in the palm of your hands. Glance at the beautiful space scenery from the window of your small spaceship cabin.
world overview
The vast majority of the world was built using a single model pack provided by Velkin Labs. This is a collection of high resolution sci-fi game models and prefabs.

The entire level is 34 square meters in size, while the distance to the furthest point is roughly 2 miles, due to the accuracy in distant and the Earth's being downscaled.
level design
The planet Earth in the world is a combination of 3 key elements - the base layer, the clouds and the atmosphere. The whole mesh contains less than 1 million polygons.

Using Nasa's high resolution SVS textures, it is possible to upscale the geometry without getting visual artifacts or losing any detail in general, which is important for realistic look.

One of primary features implemented in the world of Universal is an ability to experience zero gravity effect. It was made possible with a help of Pokeyi's project on Github.

The position of all pickups is synced in real time thanks to UTC-based sync, which means there is no networking involved. UTC-sync requires a user to have a synchronized clock.

The world is equipped with a media player, allowing users to watch any content available on YouTube or Twitch in real time using a direct link to the source.

An album "To The Furthest Stars" first debuted on Nov 24, followed by an official release on Dec 1st 2022. It is an original work and a great addition to the work of Universal.

For a limited period of time, users were able to participate in the contest called "Create memories" by publishing photos taken in the world online using hashtags.

All of the works submitted by users are still available at Twitter as individual posts, but after the last update the gallery in the world itself was taken down temporarily.

Users are in full control of their local environment with a help of a intuitive GUI found in the world. The menu contains more than 12 options available to a change.

Everyone's experience might be different, some options may be changed depending on the likings of a local user, which means it will not have any global effects or changes.

user interface
You will need a PC, Quest 2 or a VR ready PC and a compatible PC VR headset such as Valve Index, Rift/Rift S, Vive/Vive Pro/Vive Pro2 or a Windows Mixed Reality headset.

Download VRChat application from the official website, Steam or Oculus store, and proceed to create an account. Search for "Universal: New Hope" in worlds tab while in the app.
